Photo Captured 06-09-18: Disney’s Newest Attraction??

Where: Outside of St Augustine, Florida

Who: Christi Hughes

Why: It scared her when she found out it was once alive!

I love visiting and seeing things I have previously read about or only seen in pictures. I also discovering unique things that cause me to pause. If you keep your eyes open there are some awe inspiring, exhilarating, sometimes scary moments out there. When you capture them in a photo they make for a great memory not only for yourself but to share with others.

I am starting a series of blogs with pictures my friends and followers send me that shows something unique, solemn, beautiful, magnificent, frightening, or anything else that captures our attention and hopefully moves our emotions. I plan on taking that pic and making a spiritual metaphor, analogy, connection, or insight from the picture.

Description:

My first photo comes from our visit to Florida. It is a stuffed alligator, 13 feet long! It was between 40 and 50 years old and 800 pounds. It was found near Disney World in Orlando. It was found in a resident’s pool near the resort. Imagine finding this monster in your swimming pool!. I imagine this would have caused quite a stir among Mickey and Minnie. I am confident Disney does not want characters that can eat their guests. Ask Captain Hook about that!

Spiritual Lesson:

And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is [i]life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1:29-31

We once cuddled with alligators! Ok, I don’t know about cuddled with these large reptiles but before the Fall in the Garden of Eden, alligators were vegetarians. Yep, you heard me correctly! They didn’t eat other animals and were not a danger to us or us to them! When you look at this magnificent creature at 13 feet long it is hard to imagine swimming with it without feet or even petting it. I was scared to touch it even stuffed! If you read Genesis 1:29-30, you see God referred to plants as our source of food and not animals. I am not pushing for all of us being vegetarians as the Bible doesn’t command us not to eat animals after the fall (Acts 10:9-16). Yet, before sin there was no death so eating meat was not an option. The Fall corrupted all of creation, not just humanity. When I see magnificent creatures like snakes, sharks, lions, and alligators I think about a time people walked with them in harmony. That day will come again because of the redeeming power of Jesus. I look forward to the day there will be no more death!

Top 10 Reasons Life Is A Disaster Without Jesus

Life without Christ is disastrous. Check your soul and you will see it is true. We all know this deep down that there is something more for us beyond ourselves and his world.

Here are ten reasons living without Jesus doesn’t work:

1. You need to be perfect to meet God’s standard and you can’t even get close by your own efforts.

We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.      Isaiah 64:6

2. You waste your whole life pursuing stuff and people that never brings you real joy and peace.

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?  Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?   Mark 8:36-37

3. You are trying to find purpose in life without ever connecting with the only one who can give you real purpose. (It is like playing chess without the king on the board.)

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.   Romans 12:1-2

4. Being religious in order to clean up is about as beneficial as putting perfume and nice clothes on a corpse and calling it full of life.

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.  Matthew 23:27-28

5. Your enemy is stronger than you and can beat you down every time without divine intervention.

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

6. You were made to bring glory to God and you are trying to give it to someone or something else and it’s making you miserable inside.

Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth- everyone who is called by my name  whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” Isaiah 43:6-7

7. You place all your emphasis on living it up for the 70 years or so on earth and give no emphasis or preparation for the eternity you will have left after this life.

Set your mind on things above and not on earthly things.  Colossians 3:2

… yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. James 4:14

8. You are blind, unaware, ignorant and deceived and you think you can figure out your meaning on this earth on your own.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.   John 15:5

9. You will face a terrible judgment by the most powerful judge of all time who has overwhelming proof against you and can give the most devastating punishment and you are willing to take a chance that it will all go in your favor without any real reason to believe so except that you want it to be ok.

For the wages of sin is death… Romans 6:23

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.  Revelation 20:14-15

10. You think you are pretty good compared to most of the world when your wickedness just looks different than yours.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  Romans 3:23

Truth is only found in Jesus and only when we have Jesus do we really know what it is to live.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.  John 10:10

KIA Haiku for TJ’s Weekly Challenge

This is a new friend of mine who is very gifted at writing poetry, known as Haiku. It is amazing how something mundane and ordinary can be given a fresh look through the eyes of a poet. Enjoy

This is my entry for TJ’s weekly Challenge.  This weeks challenge is prompted with Windowsill. I’ll let him describe what he’s after. “Window sill could refer to the sill, what it is made of, what can be seen beyond, what is on it…whatever takes your fancy. You are welcome to use the image or thrill […]

ONLY ONE WAY TO GOD

These symbols represent various religious world views. Many of them teach that there are different paths to God. They teach that there way is right but other religions like Christianity is right too. While I understand the desire to see all oaths lead to God this is not biblical. I don’t wish condemnation on anyone but spiritual reality is their is a sin curse on man and there is not pardon from it expect through the blood of Christ.

Christians, we must understand that Jesus is the only way to God. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father except by me.” John 14:6. To allow another way is to deny the veracity of the gospel.

This realization should not give us a sense that we are better than others. In fact it should motivate us to share this good news (Gospel) with others because it is the only way to God. How bad is it if we hide the one true message of hope from a world so desperately in need of it?

HYPOCRISY OF ABORTION

“I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.”
― Ronald Reagan

I have come across this quote from Ronald Reagan several times over the years. It leads me to contemplate the hypocrisy of abortion. You might say it’s the choice of the parent. Even for the parent making the decision of life or death, it is hypocritical. By hypocritical I mean behaving in a way that suggests one has higher standards in action than is really the case. Let me explain: Parents contemplating abortion would never have been willing to give that power of choice to their parents. They would be horrified by the very thought of their life being left in the hands of their parents to choose whether they live or die. To say that I am fine with my parents having the ability to choose whether to have me or not is ridiculous because of the fact that they DID choose to have me. When I know what the decision will be of course I am fine with saying I would allow them to have a choice. That is without risk for me. The only other option is to say: I would be fine with my parents’ decision to abort me. If that is your answer then you lie to yourself or you find absolutely no value in being you.

Abortion murders something priceless so that we do not have to deal with the consequence. I can think of no other area in life where that kind of thinking is acceptable among moral people. To write off a person, everyone being of great value, as an obstacle to what we perceive as our enduring happiness is beyond egotistic.

We are so easily manipulated by sheer numbers. It is amazing how we allow the masses to help justify such atrocity. If enough people can buy into a belief then it must be right? If others feel this way then I must be justified in my action. That was the ploy of Hitler! He convinced the masses to feel right about what was so extremely wrong.

It comes down to this: we are deciding the fate of a person so that we may live as we wish. But one might say: the obstacles of having the child are so great upon me. Are they great enough to allow you the right to take their life to avoid the potential burden? How blind we are as a nation to God’s will in this!

It is hypocrisy to say you give value to life at all if you advance the cause of abortion.

Psalm 139:13-14

13 For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.

Overwhelmed by Circumstances in your Life?

When you and I hurt deeply, what we really need is not an explanation from God but a revelation of God. We need to see how great God is; we need to recover our lost perspective on life., Things get out of proportion when we are suffering, and it takes a vision of something bigger than ourselves to get life’s dimensions adjusted again.

Warren Wiersbe

I know what’s its like to feel like everything is crashing down around you and nothing makes sense. The answer is not in pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and trying harder to be stronger. That way is failure because quite frankly none of us are strong enough on our own. It’s only when you take all that effort and put it into fixing your eyes on Jesus that you finally find supernatural strength and peace. Don’t carry this burden alone any longer. You have a Savior who cares deeply and wants to carry it for you.  You have tried your way of handling it and you know how much that does not really work. Now give it up and look to Jesus and find rest for your soul.

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”    Matthew 11:28-30
